The history and international relations major is only the second Roanoke student to be awarded a Gilman for study in Europe. 

Abbe Guarino, a psychology and Spanish major who graduated in May, recently learned she received a Fulbright award to teach English in Brazil.

Caroline Peterson and Liam Lambert were named Honorable Mentions in the 2017 Barry S. Goldwater Scholarship competition.

Stephanie Shields '17 has been selected for a 2017-18 Fulbright U.S. Student Award to Germany. She will be doing research in Munich, Germany on vocal learning - the capacity to learn to produce new sounds through imitation - in the bat Phyllostomus discolor.

Edyth Cisneros earned a Fulbright Student Award teaching English in Mexico. She also will be working on a mini documentary series about the other side of immigration - those left behind.

Brieanah Gouveia received Fulbright Study Award to Scotland's University of Glasgow for an art history program titled Collecting and Provenance in an International Context.

Kristen Wicander will be teaching English to children ages 6-12 in La Rioja, Spain. In addition, the Spanish and psychology major will be teaching social studies, science, and American culture.

Savannah Scott '17 has accepted a Fulbright study/research award to study at the University of Technology of Vienna, Austria. Scott, who is from Huntington, N.Y., is a member of the Honors Program and a biology major, with minors in chemistry and French. She will be studying water quality in Austria from October 2017 to June 2018.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program chose six Roanoke students as finalists for study, research and English teaching assistantships around the globe.

Roanoke senior Rebecca Hudon has been named a Rhodes Scholar finalist -- Roanoke's first Rhodes finalist in more than 100 years. She interviews with the regional Rhodes committee in Indianapolis, later this week.
