Student Resources
We value a collaborative process as we work with students to establish services. Please submit requests early enough to allow staff sufficient time to review the request and implement reasonable accommodations and services.
Students can email aes@roanoke.edu with questions at any time and are welcome to complete the process in any order.
New Students to AES
New students to Accessible Education Services should make sure to review the Documentation Guidelines before Registering their Disability with AES.
Students will have the option to submit documentation of disability electronically while completing the Request for Accommodations form. Documentation can also be submitted via email, mail, or dropped off directly in the Accessibility Resources Office.
Please submit requests early enough to allow staff sufficient time to review the request and implement reasonable accommodations and services. Incoming fall start first-year and transfer students who are requesting accommodations are encouraged to connect with Accessibile Education Services as early as possible after confirming enrollment into Roanoke College, preferably by June 1st for disability-related housing accommodations and July 15 for other accommodations. Please keep in mind that these are suggested dates—not deadlines—and you can submit your request for accommodations and services at any time.
Once documentation has been submitted, the Assistant Director of Academic Services for Accessible Education will reach out to schedule a meeting with you over Zoom or in person to review the documentation provided.
It is the student's responsibility to self-identify, provide documentation of a disability, and to request accommodations through the Office of Accessible Education Services (AES). All accommodations are approved on a case-by case basis after an analysis of the students individual needs based on an interactive provess and review of their documentation.
Accommodations are not retroactive, and faculty are under no obligation to provide accommodations for individual students with disabilities if they have not registered through AES and provided an Accommodation Letter.
Current Students
Current students must request their Accommodation Letter every semester while attending Roanoke College.
Students are responsible for notifying professors of any need for accommodation in a course prior to the beginning of the semester for faculty to implement reasonable accommodations.
Additionally, students should meet with professors to discuss how accommodations will best work for each course. A Faculty Signature Form must be signed and returned back to the Office of Accessible Education Services in order for you to be granted access to scheduling tests in our Testing Center.
Students and faculty are encouraged to contact Accessibility Resources if assistance is needed in determining how best to implement accommodations.
