Monterey House
Located at 110 High St., the recently renovated Monterey House offers meeting space and overnight guest rooms for use by Roanoke College departments, faculty, and staff. Guest rooms are located on the second floor and provide accommodations for designated visitors here on college business (e.g. alumni and guest speakers.)
Monterey House, a large, Greek Revival-style structure built in 1853, has federal, state, and local historic landmark status. It was originally built for Powell Huff, a Salem businessman. Over its long history, it has served as a hotel, rooming house, and fraternity house. It was a private residence from the 1920s until the college purchased it in 2002. According to tradition, the property's buildings were constructed by the Dyerle brothers, who also built Roanoke College's Administration Building.
